One of my favorite times of the day is when it is time to eat!!! I seriously am so thankful for clean eating because I could honestly eat all day every day. There are times when I watch the clock for the 2 1/2 hour mark so I can whip up a snack! There are so many options for clean eating snacks that also fit into the portion controlled containers of the 21 day fix!
It is also easy to get stuck in a rut and eat the same things over and over again. So I am hoping that today I can give you a little variety to go with your fix plan!
Snack IDEAS!
My wonderful husband has picked up the easy guidelines of the fix as well. Even for men it's a no brainer to use the cups as your measurements when plating up food or prepping snacks. He used the green container to measure out our cut up veggies and place in these plastic baggies to take for lunch each day this week.
We also cooked up some boneless skinless chicken breast with fiesta lime {Mrs. Dash- no salt added} seasoning for lunches this week! Perfect for on top of salads!
The banana roll up is perfect! Do 1/2 banana on a whole grain tortilla {santa fe tortilla's are my fav} then spread a spoon of almond butter or other nut butter on the tortilla and roll with 1/2 banana! It is delicious.
1 yellow, 1 spoon and 1 purple
Here is a great tip! Do you travel for work, do you pack a lunch, do you eat on the go often? Then you can bag your meals and snacks in these awesome color coded baggies from target! HELOO life just got easier!
Need a sweet FIX! Seriously you are not human if you do not crave sweet foods at least a few times a week! DUN DUN DUN..... Cookie dough greek yogurt to the RESCUE!
Mix 1 red container of plain greek yogurt with 1 spoon of peanut butter, tiny drizzle of honey, a sprinkle of chocolate chips, a tsp of vanilla and stir! It tastes sinful and it doesn't kill the game plan! Portion control is key!
1 Red, 1 Spoon & a yellow for the chocolate chips.
Berries and nuts! Berries are lower on the glycemic index which makes them a great snack! They keep your daily sugar in check and they are super sweet!
You can mix whatever fruit you would like in the purple container as long as it fits!
Then count out your 14 raw unsalted almond to go with it and you have a perfect snack!
Fruit is my favorite! So anyway that I can mix up my fruit I will. 1 purple of cantaloup with 1 blue of almonds!
Fruit!! Green apple and raw unsalted cashews! Here is the trick. Don't take the whole bag of cashews or almonds to the table or work Make sure to portion it off and put the rest away! Otherwise it is very easy to indulge in to many nuts and throw off your count for the day!
Smoothies- I am a huge fan of smoothies! One of my favorite post workout shakes is 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder, 1 purple container of blueberries, water and ice! Blend that up for a really sweet drink that really does leave you feeling full! That extra boost of protein helps with muscle repair after your workout.
Turkey muffins and veggies- Turkey muffins are a great source of protein and you can fit a lot of muffin in a red container! Pair that with a green of veggies (cucumbers, carrots, celery, peppers) and you have yourself a nice little afternoon HEARTY snack! I will tell you that I even eat the muffins cold! I don't need to warm them up!
1 Red & 1 Yellow
Veggies and hummus. When you think of veggies most people think of ranch dressing as the dip. Well have you ever tried hummus? It is totally amazing!!! Seriously it makes the best dip and it is made with ground up chickpeas which are a great source of protein! It will keep you full until your next meal.
1 Green and 1 Blue
Cinammon Dusted Apples and Cottage Cheese easy to make full of flavor and no guilt!
Shakeology- Shakeology is typically my breakfast but I won't lie that there are times when I need something sweet and I want it now. So chocolate shakeology to the rescue! Afternoon snack, mixed with water and ice makes a great little treat! I feel like you get the most bang for your buck with shakeology. It is only 1 Red Container but it is a whole meal!
So, what have you learned from this article?
I hope that you can see that the 21 day fix is real food but just really paying attention to the portion size, the pairing of the foods and limiting how much of a good thing you can eat each day.
It's not a free for all when it comes to clean eating. It is having a plan, sticking to it and knowing that the results are happening because of your hard work! :)
